UTF-8 keywords. ShootDotEdit. ScanDigital.

By popular demand from exotic lands like Iceland with exotic alphabets, we bring you UTF-8 (international character) keyword support.

Iceland

We’ve been getting great scans of old film from ScanDigital, so we added them to the buy menu.  They can upload your scans to SmugMug.  Example: a very precocious-looking future SmugFounder.

Love shooting but hate correcting?   You’ll find relief in the buy menu from ShootDotEdit.

If you force Thumbnails Style for a gallery, you can now choose to display all thumbs on a single page.  Or you can enable pagination for larger galleries.

And may 8 bugs rest in peace, including a foul one that placed the big image in SmugMug style bottom left instead of upper right where it belonged.  This bug surfaced on some browsers when the zoom was above 100%.

Wow, the new partners offerings sound great. And because SM is partnering with them, I know I can expect a certain level of service. I’m so glad too. I have no idea how I was going to scan in the thousands of prints I have from film photography.

    Hi Samir,

Yes, we ran a lot of test scans through them (of my priceless family photos handed down over the generations) and we were really impressed. The color balance from 35mm slides is not perfect and varies from slide to slide for some reason, but other than that the results we got were really great. I hope yours are as well. Let us know.

    Thanks,
    Chris

I’ve been looking around at scanning services, so a recommendation from a trusted source is welcome. I just wish that ScanDigital weren’t one of the most expensive of these services (by quite a bit).

Aaron, I agree. David Pogue reviewed ScanMyPhotos.com in the New York Times and we’ve been thrilled with their same day return and prepaid boxes ever since. I bought two and got one free; had about 6300 4×6″ pictures scanned for about $300 and all same day and free shipping. Been uploading many via SmugMug.

    Few questions:

    1. Does UTF-8 now supports Arabic language?
    2. Shoot Dot Edit requires a signing up, and when I enter my country Bahrain, it still asks me for State/Province though it’s not required. My mobile number is also provided but it tells me that I gotta write it including the area code (which I did). Still no use. I’ve been playing around with changing form info so it accepts, but still no success.

w00t! Scan digital is going to get well used by me. If I ever get to shooting a lot, shoot.edit is going to be nice ;-)

    utf-8 support is great!

now i really need a way to be able to send my customers directly from my site to the “Buy” dialog on my smugmug photo pages, so that they can click “Order Prints” on MY site and be immediately presented the “Buy prints” dialog on my Smugmug page. please make a CGI-BIN script that can be used for this case. thanks!

    Hi everyone!

I work for ScanDigital and wanted to chime in- thanks for the warm welcome to SmugMug! We’re really excited to be a recommended service for photo scanning and video and film transfers and look forward to getting to know you all.

In response to Aaron and Stanley’s inquiries, I’d like to stress our core values of quality and safety. Every image is manually scanned (we never use auto-feeders) and reviewed by 3 separate technicians to meet strict quality guidelines. The safety and security of your items is our top priority and we’ve made every effort to assure your order is completely secure. We’ve never lost or damaged an order. Our site is integrated with UPS, which allows us to fully track your package door-to-door. We also process all material at our US-based facility and never ship any material overseas. Our world-class internal tracking system is also transparent through your personal account, so the customer can view exactly where your order is at any given time.

Overall, we never compromise the quality or safety of your material. Period. And we’re flattered that SmugMug agrees and is confident to share our services with all of you!

Please let me know if you have any questions- I’m always happy to help!

Are we able to submit images to ShootDotEdit directly though SmugMug?

  13. November 20, 2009 at 12:29 pm | #13

@Matt: No, not yet sorry! This is something we’ve talked about adding, though, so we appreciate the request.

Mohamed Ghuloom: Yes, including Right-to-Left script (if your web-browser supports it properly!) See for example:

(That *should* translate as “sunrise” in Arabic…)

    @cabbey

    Hey thanks for clarifying this

I was reading the huffington post a few weeks ago about the Goldman Sachs investment in for-profit career schools and was astounded at the connections to the white house they have and university of phoniex. I mean talk about a monopoly. <a href="http://big5.uscampus.com/research_options/find_school/college/college_map_result_c.asp?SID=nv
