Thank You Prints, Stickers, Event Marketing and bug fixes

While we were releasing batch after batch of bug fixes and tweaks, we also had a few secrets up our sleeves. It’s time to unveil a groundbreaking new feature for our Pro Smuggers: custom Thank You Prints and Stickers.

Order Branding: Your logo from start to finish.

You’ve had the ability to brand your shopping cart, but we dialed this feature up to eleven. Design your own thank you notes that get included with your print orders and put custom stickers on the outside of the shipping box.  Sound cool? It is.

Getting mail never looked so good.

Enable your Thank You Prints and Stickers for just $1 per order. Turn them on in your Control Panel > Pros tab and fine-tune them in your gallery settings, under Printing. You can also use either lab:

  • EZ Prints: They’ll add a Thank You Print to any order that contains prints, and add Stickers to any order that contains merchandise. You can also put a custom Sender Name on the return label so your customers know who the shipment is from.
  • Bay Photo: Get Thank You Prints and/or stickers added to any order, any time.

We hope you and your customers are as ecstatic as we are.  Look here for the full details and feel free to let us know what you think about these great new additions.  Want to talk about it, ask questions, show off your branding?   Head over to Dgrin.

Current Events

You’ll notice that our Events feature also got a few improvements:

  • Just like the rest of your site, Events are now NiceName compatible. This means we’ll make a friendly URL from your Event name, so your guests can remember the links easily. But you can always adjust it if you wish.
  • Events (and Sharegroups) are unlisted by default, so your private galleries aren’t revealed even if you forget to click that button during setup. Don’t forget that this means the URL will have a code of letters and numbers at the end of the NiceName; include that when you copy the link. Of course, you can leave your Event public  to get the simplest URL.
  • You can also arrange galleries in your Event, so click the new Arrange mode checkbox and drag your thumbnails get organized.
  • Sharing your Event just got a bit more powerful, too. Enter multiple email addresses in the Participant email field and separate them with a comma.
  • We’ve also given you Macros so you can easily copy and paste terms into your messages and ensure that you get the information right — regardless of how many guests you’re emailing in a go.
  • Have you revised our default share message and love what you wrote? Save it as a Template and use it again and again when emailing guests from that Event.

All this information has been added to our help page here. We’ve got even more exciting improvements in the works for this feature, so don’t be shy if you’ve got feedback for us.

The Bug Fix

Some of you wrote to us because you were having stubborn items not staying put when shopping. We’ve made a change to our cart so adding items should work across all browsers, especially if the site has set a custom domain.

That’s it from us this week. Enjoy your new features and we’ll see you next time!

All the best,

The SmugMug Family

Holy crap! You read my stinkin mind! Thank you prints and stickers are a perfect branding element for that last point of contact. Makes me more confident to send material directly to client! Thank you!

  2. May 14, 2010 at 6:59 am | #2

Wow, great implementations on the branding and thank you notes! One less thing to manually do. :)

I like this idea especially the package sticker, BUT… for something like the thank you notes…
I see in your additional link that Bay seems to package up the prints with the thank you note on the outside – it’ll be the first thing the client sees. As far as EZ Prints, I’m not sure they’d do the same thing, Prints are just kind of slipped into a folder/packaging envelope, will the thank you be on the very top??
My issue with this whole thing is that I could easily create a 4×6 of my own, add it to the cart and only have to pay the “at cost” price. I know it’s not THAT much of a difference, so I am asking YOU what makes the thank you note slipped in the order more special this way for additional cost??

  4. May 14, 2010 at 8:50 am | #4

@Amy – at EZP they’ll be in an envelope. At Bay, they’ll be packaged on top of the stack as you noted.

thanks for the clarification! Appreciate it!

  6. May 14, 2010 at 6:42 pm | #6

I’m new to selling photos so this may be a lame question…. do the customers get receipts in their packages? What brand/logo/contact info is on those receipts?

  7. May 15, 2010 at 2:25 pm | #7

Thank you for fixing the bug in the shopping cart. I’ve many clients complain, but was too busy to ask you about it! xoxoxo

  8. May 17, 2010 at 6:37 pm | #8

    Sounds like a great feature.

I wish the major security flaw were addressed by now. I’m tired of having to remember to tell it every time I sign on NOT to save my password. It should default to secure and protecting my password and photos, not giving it away.

I have complained about this for over 2 years. A simple flag … hard to believe it has not be addressed.

    Y’all are awesome.

    That is all.

  10. May 18, 2010 at 2:45 am | #10

GREAT addition! Thanks! One question… does this mean the smugmug branding is removed? Only our branding will show on box and inside?

Great now PLEASE start to offer business cards. If we could create promotional business stuff that would be big!

Thanks you, On my very first orders this month (I’m new to SmugMug) the #1 complaint was that there was nothing related to my site – espeicially on a mug that was sent to a 3rd party as a gift. Thanks for fixing this!! Much appreciated.

This is fantastic. Makes it more personal.

BIG QUESTION: It appears that if we include a thank you note in our Bay Photos box, that Bay Photo will then not include a packing list? Isn’t that like a receipt?

  20. May 24, 2010 at 6:22 pm | #24

What would be amazing is Magnets. I would pay a little more to send a print and or a Magnet for their fridge.

      June 3, 2010 at 9:34 pm | #25

yup. magnets would be cool. they’ll always stay on the fridge. for years. even when you move to a new place, people will bring magnets from the old fridge to the new fridge.

but still, these prints and stickers are cool new feature, smugmug! thank you!

  21. May 24, 2010 at 7:20 pm | #26

The SmugMug branding always bothered me so it’s great to see you added this feature. I ordered a test package to see how it looked and it looks pretty good but for some reason Bay Photo put my logo sticker on the lower part of the package where it’s not very noticeable. Is there any way you can contact them and ask them to put the stickers on the upper portion of the package so it’s above the return address? It would look better that way.

  22. May 24, 2010 at 7:53 pm | #27

This is amazing! Now, all I need is the ability to have you guys burn my DVD and customize it for each shoot. Then I will be in complete photog zen (I’m very close as it is!).

  23. May 25, 2010 at 7:35 am | #28

I was actually thinking about this very thing this morning and I thought “hey,…that would be awesome if they could send thank you cards with the orders” …then i thought to myself….ahhh, great idea but they’d never do it. Glad I was wrong on this one! Once again, smugmug is just great.

  24. June 2, 2010 at 2:34 pm | #29

I ordered some prints to frame for a client and got to see what this looks like. I was really impressed with the way this looks. Thanks for this addition! While I mostly sell commercially from this my website with you, I sent some family photos to my Mother after Christmas for this year. She could not understand who those “smug muggy” people were for the longest time and I know it confused my clients so thank you very much.

  25. June 3, 2010 at 6:15 pm | #30

This is awesome – can’t wait to take advantage of it! I’ll say it again though… it would be very nice if we could get imprinting on the photo (like name and year on senior photo) or our brand on the photo! There wouldn’t be much more to improve upon after that was done!

  26. June 4, 2010 at 4:32 pm | #31

Best addition yet!! I’ve been waiting for this and I’m so glad it’s here!!

  27. June 8, 2010 at 8:26 am | #32

    So when is this available?

    • June 8, 2010 at 10:24 am | #33

Patrick, go to your control panel, pros tab it’s there right now, and has been since we released it :) Thanks!

    Stay tuned :)

  29. June 8, 2010 at 4:55 pm | #35

I like the idea of the Thank You notes and stickers but it would be too costly on small orders to pay a $1.00 to have this done.
I wonder if SMUGMUG couldn’t offer this and price it according to the order amount with $1.00 being the highest amount charged. Maybe 25 cents or so if the order is under $10.00?

  30. June 9, 2010 at 12:58 pm | #36

    That’s big!

  31. June 9, 2010 at 12:59 pm | #37

It might just cement you guys as the ultimate!

    June 9, 2010 at 2:52 pm | #38

Good move. I wonder if it could be price dependent. A customer ordering one 4×6 gets a $1 label included does not make good business sense. If it had a auto include method of anything over X (we set) dollars in sales per order trips the auto send a thank you print / sticker to be included. Thanks :)

    • June 15, 2010 at 10:31 pm | #39

Yes, I agree. A lot of our orders are in the $20 range. Having a minimum order and larger for the Thank you package I would be willing to sign up. Right now I finally just was paid from the site and we have been with you since November. Nice saving acct though!

      June 18, 2010 at 4:23 pm | #40

Ditto! Not cost effective for small prints, but definitely want it for big orders without having to micromanage per gallery….

I am interested in joining, except i went to someones page and i right clicked on their image it blocked it- Great- but when i went to purchase the same photo i was able to copy/paste the image. I deleted the image, but what’s going to protect mine?

  34. June 15, 2010 at 9:31 pm | #43

    this is perfect!

  35. June 24, 2010 at 9:05 pm | #44

I agree with many of the comments stating there should be a minimum before receiving the “Thank You” cards.

But this is great to have this feature. Show your clients your professionalism.

I was wondering when you sign up for smugmug how does your website address look like? For example would it be like JonDoe2@smugmug.com or something else.

I agree with DA Alan above. I just checked my site and it also allows someone to copy and paste from the buy this photo pop-up.

Is there anyway to fix this???

  38. July 25, 2010 at 10:01 pm | #47

Holy crap! You read my stinkin mind! Thank you prints and stickers are a perfect branding element for that last point of contact. Makes me more confident to send material directly to client! Thank you!

This is Great, but the card that can with the photo and the sticker on the box will both in most cases end up in the trash can… What would be nice is to have my sticker on the back of the photo…
