Bulk Digital Downloads, Full Screen Slideshow and Packages Improvements, bug fixes

Download Your Orders in Bulk

Great news for Pros who love selling digital downloads and their fans who love to buy them: Orders containing four or more digital photos are now retrievable in a single zip file. Get the goods in one fell swoop.

Once your order is complete,  hit the Download All Digital Files button on the confirmation screen and we’ll start creating your zip file. Check your email; we’ll send a link to it as soon as it’s ready.

Questions on how to buy downloads? Look right here.

Improvements

A few weeks ago we started working on making iPads and iPhones display your beautiful slideshows in the mobile Safari browser. Add the full-screen slideshow to that list! Try it by hitting the “Slideshow” button at the top of your galleries and be blown away by edge-to-edge photos right in your hands. There’s still more to come, soon.

We’ve added in password prompts to all passworded galleries in Packages.  Pros can rest assured knowing that buyers browsing protected galleries must be authorized to view them before completing their selections.

We snuck in a few bug fixes:

  • You can refresh and re-play videos in the lightbox as many times as you wish, without hiccups or blips.
  • A few orders placed for certain items with shipping coupons weren’t discounting the right amount, but this has been adjusted and fixed.
  • Prolific writers can keep captioning: Special characters won’t prevent photos from loading in Journal viewing style.

Digitally yours,

The SmugMug Family

Always great releases that makes SM the best.

Still need some love for android. My wife got a X and the anger she had for the mobile site made her ask me if we could put some of our pictures on a site that worked with droids. That shouldn’t happen with a quality site like SM.

The mobile site should work for both Droid and WebOS phones – what seems to be broken?

  2. July 23, 2010 at 2:57 am | #3

Wouldn’t mind seeing it work right on WebOS in addition to Android (I know.. long shot).

But I noticed it looks like it fills just the browser based on that screen shot. I would LOVE to see that on the main site. Don’t get me wrong, a full screen sideshow is nice, but there are times when I would like to fill the browser window, and not have it take 100% of my attention.

Also, props on the download as zip. I don’t use it, but I know it can be quite useful.

It looks FANTASTIC on my iPad, I am so excited about this! Thanks so much for that, this is the stuff that makes me overjoyed about SM!

Great, but what about digital downloads that aren’t a sale? I’d still love to see the ability to download a whole folder into a zip by anyone who has my Assistant password. It would be great to hear that’s coming!

Cool. I’ll have to give some thought to digital downloads.

I enjoy seeing the regular cadence of new improvements, but I keep hoping I’ll see an improvement related to something that will benefit me as a non-pro Smugmug user. The fact that I can’t sort the galleries on my home page by the date of the photos in the gallery – not the date they were uploaded – seems like a huge oversight. I’ve also been waiting three years to be able to get bigger thumbnails for the galleries on my home page. Again, this seems like a core feature that would benefit a lot of users – yet after three years, and several “Yes, we’ll do that eventually”, still nothing…

Yes, PLEASE allow bulk downloads for me or for anyone I send a link to. One by one downloading is SO tedious and really not practical. Using the third-party software you provide links to is very cumbersome. I just don’t understand why this feature has not been available through SmugMug???

    • July 31, 2010 at 1:37 pm | #9

I agree, PLEASE! I have been waiting for buld downloads for years now, not just for me but for customers if I allow. That would really help!
I also wish they could order a CD of their gallery!!!!!

This slideshow button works fine on my ipad – good job – however, when I attempt this on my iphone – it keeps putting me into the mobile smugmug mode –

If I go to my homepage – I can select the Non-Mobile Homepage – but as soon as I tap on a sub-gallery it puts me back into mobile viewing – how am I suppose to use the slide show function on an iphone??

Hi – please write us at the help desk, ATTN: Andy – and give us the details on the Droid – what droid, what OS, thanks!

You couldn’t have timed this more perfectly. I’ve got to gather some photos from a few galleries and make them available for download for a national transportation convention that’s coming up in a couple of weeks. This will save me TONS of time.
    Thank YOU..!!!

That’s great news. I have just checked the slideshow on my iPad – it is really amazing. I just love your stuff. It is really pro pro pro. Thank you smugmug.

Bulk digital downloads is one small step, I’m still waiting for the giant leap that a PROOF DELAY would be…

I understand that people who buy stock images usually want the image right away. But just like everything else, the decision should be the pro’s, not the host’s. Stop pretending to be Steve Jobs; give us OPTIONS.

I too don’t understand why most users -even power ones- still have this ‘one by one download’ limitation. Commercial policy ? Broadband issue ? Security issue ?
Even me.com allows to download whole galleries…

    • October 1, 2010 at 2:50 pm | #16

Yes, please make these download features available for all SM account types! They would be a huge help for family & friends to be able to pick & choose, then download a set of photos that they want at once. The one-by-one download is a real pain or sharing. (and allow bulk-picked downloads that aren’t sales)

    this is great…

    one more thing
can we add an option to change your name on the event registration confirmation email. My first name and my photography business name is totally different
I don’t want my customers to get my real name on the email. I want them to see the company name so they can recognize the email

And I also would like the owner to be excluded from the stats !
That’s the number of visitors clicks, and their preferred pictures which are interesting to me, not mine..

Renaud, I asked SmugMug whether owner views were included in the stats. They said all of your views and clicks are excluded from the stats, as long as you are logged in as the owner.

Thanks, SmugMug. I sent in a support request for help on downloading a gallery not even a month ago. The solution then was less than ideal (and not practical for non-technical clients). It was one of the only times I was really disappointed with SmugMug and now the issue is resolved (and an e-mail notification – super nice). Thanks for always improving.

Is there a way that I can provide my client with access to the “Download All Digital Files” functionality without having to go through the shopping cart? Sometimes they have paid for the usage of the images before I shoot the event and I’d love to be able to deliver with a private gallery instead of a DVD and say “here’s your button to download all the images in this gallery”.

    thanks!
    Trish

That download thing is a great step! Now how about letting my customers download all the photos in their galleries (that they had to purchase directly through my credit card processing because SM doesn’t have custom items) such as the ones here: http://store.MotoHD.net/Motorcycles

    YES… exactly what trishtunney said….! Comment #18

That would solve an entire host of problems, which btw, I’ve been struggling with all afternoon. The shopping cart is not AT ALL cooperative on providing downloads of the digital images, even with a coupon that provides the downloads to them at owners cost… which is supposed to be -0-.

Big, fat, juicy whole gallery digital downloads is my dream, apparently shared by more than a few others here.

  21. July 27, 2010 at 9:34 pm | #25

Awesome on the HTML5 slideshows – are you planning to migrate the “Show Off” slideshow to HTML5 as well? I use a Show Off slideshow on my homepage (www.danhontz.com) and would love to get that iPad-friendly.

  22. July 28, 2010 at 2:36 pm | #26

Awesome!! Thanks again for reading out thoughts and adhering to our needs! You guys ROCK!!

Great Feature, with increasing Download sales I am sure my customers will appreciate this Festure

  24. July 29, 2010 at 6:55 pm | #28

LOVE that multi download thing! I want to sell more digital downloads and less prints, and my customers want to buy digital downloads easily. Now here’s hoping soon SmugMug will offer images on DISC too!!!!

  25. August 22, 2010 at 8:07 am | #29

glad the large slideshows have been made ipad friendly. Any chance the embeddable slideshows will be going the same route?

  26. August 24, 2010 at 5:40 pm | #30

It’s sure be nice to have a bunk digital download option for standard sites, for making it easier for visitors to download a whole gallery or a few photos from one. (with sizes selectable). When I post photos to share with friends I almost feel like I should burn them a CD too, since downloading more than a few is a hassle.

  27. August 24, 2010 at 5:40 pm | #31

whoops, typo… meant ‘bulk’ digital download option… not ‘bunk’ ;-)

Have you given any thought to adding digital downloads to the package feature? I’d like to put together digital packages (x # of files for y dollars).

I love the new non-flash slideshow, it’s really amazing!

Is there a way I can make a link to a gallery that opens this slideshow by default? I’d like to post links to my gallery slideshows that can be viewed when on a iphone/ipad, but if i just post the link to the gallery then the visitor has to find the slideshow button on their own. Maybe a parameter i can add to the gallery URL that triggers the slideshow automatically?
