Be More Social, New Customizer and Bug Fixes

Better Be Social

We’ve revamped our Be Social feature so you popular folks can easily post and share to five glorious social sites: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Posterous and the illustrious WordPress:

New Be Social sharing

We’ve beefed it up so that you can tweak settings such as the pic size and alignment, link style and if you want to attach your geolocation and keywords with your post. Best of all, you can now post to your Facebook Fan Pages in addition to your personal page!

See all the cool changes explained here.

The Share button is now visible to logged-in owners at all times. This means that you’ll see that button and can use all of these great Share features even if you’ve disabled Easy Sharing in your gallery settings. When in doubt, you can always log out for a sec or use the Visitor View button on your homepage to see your site the way guests do.

SmugMug Pros get a little added bonus: You can hook up a Bit.ly Pro account to your SmugMug Control Panel and use that for link shortening. By default everyone gets an awesome http://smu.gs short link in Be Social, but those of you with custom domains can totally flaunt your brand. Find that under the Settings tab.

Okee Doke!

We added another great designer to our list of certified customizers: Say hello to Okee.co!

Okee.co for SmugMug Customization

They offer an arresting array of gorgeous templates as well as full-on custom design. Check out their portfolio and get a clean, beautiful site that shows off your best work.

Don’t forget to see our full list of certified customizers, too.

Bug fixes:

  • Share emails were showing funky formatting when you (gallery owner) viewed your sent email stats in your Control Panel. We also made sure that the referral link you’re passing to your friends works a treat the first time and every time.
  • Pros: We added a description into your notification emails so when we bill you for features like Boutique Packaging and Order Branding, now you know what it’s for.

Here’s to making great sites to share,

The SmugMug Family

Glad you are doing this we really need the ability to post an image that we have for sale in a size that does not need croppinad and hand feed it to our clients so they can just click this link and buy the print without looking at 500 choices from puzzles to tshirts, I really think they get lost overwhelmed and then just leave it to do another day when they can understand it better, take 20 people not in the industry show them your site and ask they to buy the image that needs to be cropped and see what they do .. again I need to be able to crop the image in the size style paper print or frame I want them to sue to best illustrate the photo..and spoon feed it to 10,000 people on facebook fan page so they can click and buy the image with out seeing all the other styles sizes avaiavlable call it showcase call it whatever you want but we should be able to post 20-50 of these in our pro account where it is click buy no brain power needed.. a wordpress plugin that did this would be great

      Billy,
Have you tried setting up custom pricing where the only image sizes and products are the ones you select? It’s a great way to get rid of the merchandise and all of the odd sizes and options.

Hi Billy, yes, see the post by DTK, it’s a good one. Write us at the help desk if you have questions. http://smugmug.com/help/emailreal

Hey! Is your android uploaded updated too? Right now, I have to use third party software to get my photos up to SmugMug & FB at the same time. It would be great if I could do them both right from SM!

    Just a thought!

This simply does not work for me.

I can’t add any social accounts, the Advanced Settings tab does nothing and even under my control panel there is nothing.

Am I missing something obvious because all this looks really cool?

How do you set up custom pricing? This is exactly what I need.

I forget exactly the best way to do it but I make my galleries “custom” by going to the gallery and then clicking on pricing from the gallery options and adjust in there. check the help section of smugmug for the best answer but I think there is a specific amount or you leave it blank to not include it-I honestly forget but I know the help has specifics. good luck.

I just tested this out, and I have a concern. I recently took to switching a few of my galleries to : View all thumbnails on one page, because (like many people), I find scrolling through pages upon pages of photos to be really annoying and wasteful of my time. Now if someone wants to “Be social” on a page that I have changed to list that way, they have to scroll back to the top>click be social> then scroll down to find the picture. Here’s an example of one of my galleries like this: http://tinyurl.com/46bunsz
That seems like a huge hassle. I can change the galleries back to many pages (I wish that we could choose how many pages are shown, or have a “VIEW ALL” option for people)
The BE SOCIAL option should be listed at the top of the picture when it is clicked on (where the “like” and “tweet” buttons are).

I also feel that the permissions which have been chosen for FB are way too extreme- and should be scaled back. People are way less likely to sign up for an app when they know that it will post to their wall, access their pages, etc. I myself am going in to cancel my permissions just as soon as I’m finished with this message.

Until this changes, I feel like I need to change my directions in sharing on FB, and just instruct people to post a link to their exact photo.
    Thank you for your time!
    Christina

Hi Christina – thanks for the feedback!

I agree regarding the app…that is why I don’t use the app is because of these same concerns! Thank you for listening to our concerns!

When I copy and paste a youtube or vimeo URL into Facebook, the video is automatically embedded into my wall. I want to embed my smugmug videos into Facebook, also. Is this possible?

Awesome! Do you think you’ll add blogger support in the future?

  9. February 16, 2011 at 11:22 am | #17

THANK YOU FOR THE OWNER SHARE BUTTON! I was getting tired of remembering to go in and change that all the time! THANK YOU!

    Hi

Nice feature! – i’m only having one minor problem. If you live in a country, where you use special characters, these are cribled. For an example look here (in Danish, but i guess you’ll spot the problem):

    Kind regards,
