New Link Shortener and Some Bug Fixes
Get Shorter URLs
Love little links? Take advantage of our awesome, Smuggy link shortening service that turns any web address you drop into the box into a cute http://smu.gs URL:
This is a great feature for those of you who want bite-sized snips to share with your friends. You can even add “/shorten” to the end of your SmugMug address to get your own version of the page.
Bug Fixes
A couple of order-related issues were squashed:
- We fixed a glitch that was hiding details about Packages in your shopping cart total. Now you can review them before checkout.
- If you have non-alphanumerics in your email address (like + signs), the secure link in your order confirmation emails should work when you click it.
And a miscellaneous one:
- Deleting a photo from a gallery shouldn’t reset the arrangement of the remaining images.
Till later,
The SmugMug Family

Definitely a nifty tool. I’m going to add it our Smugmug page top tool bar… However the COPY button does not seem to operate with the iPad using iOS 4.3.1.
Sadly, the copy functionality uses flash (which is the only current cross-browser way to do it), so it won’t work for any iOS devices. Hopefully one day we’ll have another alternative, but for now there is no other way to offer copy functionality.
can anyone offer a suggestion for how to share a gallery from the iPad since the copy button doesn’t work because of flash? I am traveling and would like to share my photos with people when I upload them on the road. I know i can send a link to my “site” but would be nice to just be able to share one gallery.
From the description that wasn’t quite what I was expecting when I added /shorten I thought I was going to get a shortened version of the page I appended to.
That’s what I thought too! It would be nice if this could be incorporated into the Share button or something. Custom shortening is awesome, but limited if you have to go to a new page or can’t automate it.
Will this be built into the smugmug gallery interface? The reason I ask is when I send a gallery or image link to a client that long crazy url breaks for some in their email apps. My work around is to use tinyurl.com before I send out links. But it would be nice to have it on hand for a fast link shorter.
Thanks,
John v.
Yes, I agree. It would be great to have the option to grab short links from the “Get a link” screen.
Thanks,
Aaron.
Although this is a nice little feature there are other things that would be more useful, such as allowing favorites for albums with out having to create an event
