Latest Bug Fixes

April 7, 2011 3 comments

A few little things were just released:

  • Our Simple (Java) uploader reports the real number of files that you actually uploaded.
  • The SmugVault JPG previews show the correct orientation of your RAW files.
  • Customers using IE9 to buy a Package won’t see the thumbnails vanish when they go to pick images.

Cheers!

Be Social: Improvements and Bug Fixes

April 7, 2011 18 comments

We know how much you Smuggers love sharing pics on social sites, and we love making it easy for you to do. After all the great feedback we’ve gotten from you on our forums, Facebook and Twitter, we have a few more improvements to our Be Social feature.

New Quick Share Button

New Facebook Share button for instant access to the Facebook panel in Be Social. Look for it under any photo, next to the other Quick Share buttons:

Owner Share for Gallery Owners

The Share button will read “Owner Share” to logged-in account owners if you’ve disabled Easy Sharing in your gallery settings:

This is an awesome feature that lets you tout your site even when others can’t.

Tumblr, Two Ways

You can now post two different ways to Tumblr: Article and Photo. If you choose “Article”, you can adjust the layout and formatting of your post from Be Social’s Advanced Settings:

Add Keywords to Tag Your Posts

A new keywords field appears for WordPress, Tumblr and Posterous if you have keywords enabled in the gallery:

Refinements and Bug Fixes

We have a few smaller improvements to Be Social, including:

  • You can opt to show or hide Location settings when posting to Twitter.
  • Ability for UTF-8 characters to be posted to Facebook.

And a couple of bug fixes, too:

  • Our link shortener had some trouble with links containing UTF-8 characters. No more!
  • We no longer reveal your HTML and script code in the gallery description.

Hot tip: Remember that applying a viewing password to your gallery will hide the Be Social feature from the Share button. Certain features will also be disabled if you’ve turned off External Linking, so check your gallery settings if something doesn’t look right. Note that you can also completely disable the Quick Share buttons in your Control Panel.

As always, let us know what you think!

New Link Shortener and Some Bug Fixes

March 31, 2011 9 comments

Get Shorter URLs

Love little links? Take advantage of our awesome, Smuggy link shortening service that turns any web address you drop into the box into a cute http://smu.gs URL:

This is a great feature for those of you who want bite-sized snips to share with your friends. You can even add “/shorten” to the end of your SmugMug address to get your own version of the page.

Try it for yourself!

Bug Fixes

A couple of order-related issues were squashed:

  • We fixed a glitch that was hiding details about Packages in your shopping cart total. Now you can review them before checkout.
  • If you have non-alphanumerics in your email address (like + signs), the secure link in your order confirmation emails should work when you click it.

And a miscellaneous one:

  • Deleting a photo from a gallery shouldn’t reset the arrangement of the remaining images.

Till later,

Arrange Photos Bug Fixes

March 24, 2011 2 comments

We ironed out two little arrangement bugs tonight, so doing the following shouldn’t disrupt the sort order of your photos:

  • Making a copy of an image (this tool jumbled galleries for some)
  • Entering HTML in your captions (when you sort by caption)

More to come soon, as always.

Release Notes and Bug Fixes

March 17, 2011 6 comments

Tonight we’ve got a few fixes for our IE9-using Smuggers:

  • Prices in the shopping cart are again showing the proper numerical values without funny brackets.
  • The crop tool lets you drag and adjust the borders.
  • Printmarks and Watermarks let you drag the transparency sliders when you’re creating or editing them.

… and some miscellaneous improvements for the rest of us:

  • The  Simple (Java) uploader’s “Select Files & Folders” button no longer hides from Smuggers using Mac OS X 10.5.8 .
  • Lens and focal length info is accurately displayed for photos shot with Canon 1Ds and 500Ds.
  • We also fixed an Arrange bug that was preventing images uploaded to unsorted galleries from showing up at the front, where you’d expect.

As always, let us know what you think.

Bug Fixes and Improvements

March 14, 2011 Leave a comment

With all of our recent great giveaways and guest posts we had a ton of stuff happening under the hood, too. Here’s a few!

  • We fixed the “Back to Gallery” link in Share > Get a Link > Gallery Links > Slideshow when you share galleries of Collected photos. It directs you to the proper gallery now, not the source gallery.
  • Picasa users: The URL in the uploader confirmation link is fixed. Additionally, if you were asked to log in, the plugin will let you continue as expected. More on uploading from Picasa.
  • When using our Quick Share feature to Like a photo, we’ll post the single-image lightbox link to your wall for all viewing styles except our default SmugMug style. For that, we’ll post a gallery link.
  • We tightened up the Smart Gallery rules so that Rules that have no matches won’t return bogus results.
  • Some customers were saying that they were having some trouble getting Arrange > Sort > By Date Taken to work. This is now fixed.
  • Your homepage video player won’t automatically log you out of your account.

More soon,

Arranging Collected Photos and Smart Galleries

March 3, 2011 62 comments

We made a huge improvement to how you can arrange your galleries: Your Smart Galleries and Collected photos can be sorted alongside your regularly-uploaded images.

Previously, collected images were stuck in the mud: They dropped into your galleries and were segregated when you opened any of our Arrange tools. Now they should behave just like any other pic, so click, drag, nudge them to the front or whatever you fancy. Shuffle up and deal!

  • Swap a photo using the Replace tool and we’ll remember its spot.
  • Changing a previously-sorted gallery to “none” will move all virtual copies to the end of the gallery.
  • Moving photos will place them neatly at the end of the receiving gallery if it doesn’t have sorting options already set.

Bug Fix

We also fixed a bug that was causing a “Gallery not found” message after using any Arrange tool. You should land smoothly in the gallery now, no bumps or layovers to hold you back.

But that’s enough for tonight. We’ll let you get back to sorting and playing with your site.

Be More Social, New Customizer and Bug Fixes

February 16, 2011 18 comments

Better Be Social

We’ve revamped our Be Social feature so you popular folks can easily post and share to five glorious social sites: Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Posterous and the illustrious WordPress:

New Be Social sharing

We’ve beefed it up so that you can tweak settings such as the pic size and alignment, link style and if you want to attach your geolocation and keywords with your post. Best of all, you can now post to your Facebook Fan Pages in addition to your personal page!

See all the cool changes explained here.

The Share button is now visible to logged-in owners at all times. This means that you’ll see that button and can use all of these great Share features even if you’ve disabled Easy Sharing in your gallery settings. When in doubt, you can always log out for a sec or use the Visitor View button on your homepage to see your site the way guests do.

SmugMug Pros get a little added bonus: You can hook up a Bit.ly Pro account to your SmugMug Control Panel and use that for link shortening. By default everyone gets an awesome http://smu.gs short link in Be Social, but those of you with custom domains can totally flaunt your brand. Find that under the Settings tab.

Okee Doke!

We added another great designer to our list of certified customizers: Say hello to Okee.co!

Okee.co for SmugMug Customization

They offer an arresting array of gorgeous templates as well as full-on custom design. Check out their portfolio and get a clean, beautiful site that shows off your best work.

Don’t forget to see our full list of certified customizers, too.

Bug fixes:

  • Share emails were showing funky formatting when you (gallery owner) viewed your sent email stats in your Control Panel. We also made sure that the referral link you’re passing to your friends works a treat the first time and every time.
  • Pros: We added a description into your notification emails so when we bill you for features like Boutique Packaging and Order Branding, now you know what it’s for.

Here’s to making great sites to share,

The SmugMug Family

A few more fixes

January 27, 2011 1 comment

A few fixes shipped this week:

  • We fixed a bug that was preventing items from staying put in some shopping carts, even with cookies enabled.
  • International shoppers will once again be able to enter a coupon code during checkout.
  • If you use our Get a Link feature and pick a different thumbnail on the right, we won’t drop the alt and title tags on your blog links.
  • Some Pros noticed that they were unable to manually release Proof Delayed orders due to the system thinking it was part of a muti-pro order. We’ve fixed this, too.
  • Pros: A couple of improvements found their way into your Sales History spreadsheets to help make it easier to do your taxes.

Have a great evening in SmugLand!

Six Bugs Fixed

January 20, 2011 8 comments

A series of bug fixes tonight, if you will:

  • Some delivery address’ phone numbers weren’t getting put onto the shipping labels, but we’ll make sure to pass that info on now.
  • If you feel like refreshing the page after you send a Share email, we won’t send an annoying duplicate message to your recipients.
  • We tweaked our custom Subcategories page. Now the drop-down bars for the parent category start off with “Pick a Category” rather than displaying the first category in the list. This makes things a little clearer for you as you organize.
  • Some Packages were showing the wrong item quantities once added to the shopping cart, but this is now fixed.
  • Additionally, Pros switching the lab for a Package sometimes saw the previous lab’s products rather than the new ones.
  • And because three’s a magic number: Now changing a Package’s price from the Set Prices option won’t change the galleries to which that package applies.

Here’s to squishing more bugs together,

The SmugMug Family
