Get ready to jump up and down with excitement — SmugMug is happy to announce that we are sponsors of The Kennel Club’s Dog Photographer of the Year Competition!
The competition is organized by The Kennel Club, the oldest recognized canine organization of its kind in the world, and the UK’s largest organization dedicated to protecting and promoting the health and welfare of all dogs. Besides being a voluntary register for pedigree dogs and crossbreed dogs, they offer dog owners and those working with dogs an unparalleled source of education, experience, and advice on puppy buying, dog health, dog training, and dog breeding. The Kennel Club has quite the distinguished pedigree, so we jumped at the chance to partner with this historic canine organization.
The Dog Photographer of the Year Competition is free to enter and open to both professional and amateur photographers worldwide. There are eight categories for entry:
- Dogs at Play
- Dogs at Work
- Assistance Dogs and Dog Charities
- Man’s Best Friend
- I Love Dogs Because… (Open only to those under the age of 18.)

In addition to sponsoring the competition, we are pleased to announce our very own Alastair Jolly, European Business Manager, will be part of the distinguished judges panel. Alastair, a 20+ year photography industry professional, has a passion for both photography and dogs and is incredibly excited to be participating.
Now for the good stuff: prizes! The Overall Winner and First Place category winners will receive a one year SmugMug Business account! Second and Third place in each category will receive a one year SmugMug Portfolio account. That’s a lot of SmugMug action up for grabs! All winners, including second and third runner-up will have their photos displayed in the Kennel Club Art Gallery in Mayfair, London. Now that’s something to bark about! Be sure to check out the complete list of prizes.
In addition, The Kennel Club has partnered with acclaimed dog photographer, and SmugMug customer, Andy Biggar to offer a two-day course for the Grand Prize winner! Andy is a previous Dog Photographer of the Year winner and credits his win as a key factor to his success. His win gave him the confidence to change his career and become a professional dog photographer. Now he is one of the world’s most in-demand dog photographers! We are always thrilled to see achievements from our wonderful customers and are excited to see him share his knowledge with the next crop of up-and-coming dog photographers.
If all this has you wagging your tail with excitement, act fast! The deadline to enter is March 30th. The Kennel Club and judges can’t wait to see all of your submissions and we look forward to seeing the winning photographs. Good luck!
