We all know you can’t judge a book by its cover, but a good cover certainly doesn’t hurt right? Just like a great hardback, we’re giving your galleries the option to have a beautiful cover image to set the mood for your photo galleries. This cover image will grace the top of your gallery, in full-width glory, welcoming your visitors.

The cover image fits seamlessly at the top of your gallery, with the title, description, buttons (for buy, slideshow, and download), and navigation links all displaying on top of the photo. We didn’t want the cover image to overshadow all your amazing gallery photos though, so we designed it to be large enough that your galleries get the stunning intro they deserve without hiding the photos below it.

The cover image is only available for galleries that use Collage Portrait, Collage Landscape, or Thumbnails. To enable it, all you have to do is make sure Gallery Cover Image is set to ON in the Appearance category of your gallery settings. You can choose your own image to use, or we’ll pick one automatically for you.

Cover Image is enabled in the “Appearance” section of your Gallery Settings

In related fabulous-photo news, we recently launched a feature that automatically detects the best part of your photo based on its metadata (faces, focus point, etc.) — and Cover Image will also take advantage of that to properly align your photo. However, if we couldn’t detect the best part, or you’d like to manually change how the cover image is positioned, you also have the option to move the photo up or down (and sometimes left or right, depending on the photo).

The Cover Image can be repositioned to your desired perfect spot

With good looks and innovative options like these, maybe judging your galleries by their Cover Images isn’t such a bad move after all.
